About Us

A Fire Worth Crossing the City For

The people, the patience and the philosophy behind Narayana Dosa.

Our Story

It Started With Twelve Chairs & One Fire.

In 2018, a Bandra apartment became Mumbai's hardest reservation. No signboard, no menu online — just twelve strangers, a wood-fire stove and whatever Chef Anna found at the docks that morning.

The supper club became a pop-up. The pop-up became a waiting list. And in 2021, the waiting list became a room of its own on Altamount Road — 42 seats built around a single open hearth, because that is where every dish here begins.

Today, Narayana Dosa serves a cuisine that refuses easy labels: Indian in memory, European in method, and stubbornly seasonal in everything.

Our Mission

To make every guest feel like the thirteenth chair at that first table — fed slowly, generously, unforgettably.

The Chef

Chef Annapurna “Anna” Rao

Founder & Head Chef

Before the Michelin stages in Copenhagen and San Sebastián, there was a wood-fire stove in her grandmother's Mangalore kitchen. Anna Rao cooks from both places at once.

Her food is the South at full volume, plated with quiet discipline — dosas fermented on their own clock, a ghee roast that blushes brick-red only when it is ready, and neer dosa so thin it barely believes in itself.

Luxury is not truffle on everything. Luxury is patience — and knowing when to leave a dish alone.

What We Believe

Four Quiet Convictions

Fire First

Every menu begins at the hearth. Wood, smoke and patience do the seasoning before anything else touches the plate.

Rooted Sourcing

Seventy percent of our larder travels less than 200 km — heirloom grains, coastal seafood, single-estate spices.

Quiet Luxury

No gimmicks, no gold flakes for the camera. Luxury here is a perfectly rested sauce and service that anticipates.

People Over Plates

A kitchen where every cook eats well, learns fast and signs their work with pride.

The Space

Walnut, Brass & Candlelight

Designed by Studio Mumbai alumni — a room that turns dinner into cinema.
